Friday, December 2 @ 7pm, Pray & Remember prayer service to renew our commitment to the work and witness of the four US Churchwomen who gave their lives in service to God’s people 25 years ago in El Salvador.  Guest speaker, Dianna Ortiz, a missionary prisoner in Guatemala, a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the power of God’s grace.

Good Shepherd:  Had their annual “spooky Bingo” with the kids from the school

of religion.  Reports that it was great fun.

Hickman Mills Ministerial Alliance:  The annual ecumenical Thanksgiving

Service will be Tuesday, November 22 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.  The offering at the service, as well as canned goods, will go to the Community Assistance Council.

Food Pantry:  The school will be in helping in putting together Thanksgiving Baskets.

Giving Tree:  Should be going up the last weekend in November.  The School of Religion classes, as well as the Confirmation class will be making the ornaments to go on the tree.  An article in the bulletin is asking for names of people or families in our community that parishioners know of, that could use assistance for Thanksgiving or Christmas.

BeFrienders:  Continue to meet.  They are currently studying the book Christian

Caregiving – a Way of Life.

Over 50 & Time Out:  This Wednesday, is the annual Thanksgiving Time-Out lunch that is prepared and served by the 8th graders.  The senior citizens are always enthusiastic about this meal.  They look forward to the interaction with the children.

St. James:  We discussed the possibility of having a fresh fruit collection on the 3rd Monday of the month, when St. Regis volunteers go to the soup kitchen to serve.  It was emphasized that we should specify one fruit, instead of an assortment.  It’s much easier serving those coming to the kitchen.

We are also looking at the possibility of making those Mondays, “meatloaf Monday.”  Judy has volunteered to check on the restrictions concerning bringing in several meatloaves already prepared.  We aren’t sure about health department issues concerning this.

Outreach, Nursing Homes:  Vic continues to visit.  He can no longer bring candy to the patients.  The nurses weren’t too pleased with the high demands by all the patients.

Ita Maura:  Rick advised that he had about 24 at his house on Saturday, to welcome the South American visitors.

Rick also has received a letter from Ita Maura that he is having translated.  The Ita Maura community has about $3,000 in the bank, to be used for the purchase of a truck.  During the visit to Ita Maura, last spring, St. Regis had promised to match any funds that they collected for the truck.

Council Nominations:  We received 32 names of nominees to the Social Service Ministry.  The names were delegated out to those in attendance.  Father Tom has requested that we make phone contact with everyone by the weekend, and notify the parish office of those who will consider the council.  Then a letter will go out to those who respond positively.  We will have 3 of our current council members, not returning next year.  Cathy Albers, Barb Durante and Vic Wavada.

Overall, most of those on the council that participated in the “Rush to Service” were pretty disappointed in the lack of interest by the parishioners.  Some of them just wandered through the crowd in the gathering space, passing out the coupons for free donuts that listed our council members and our ministries on the back.
